5 reasons why you should visit the Daintree during the wet season!

The wet season in the Daintree is also known as the green season and falls between December to April. This is by far the most beautiful time of year to visit Cairns, Port Douglas, or the Daintree. Here are 5 reasons why we think you should visit the Cape Tribulation and the Daintree this wet season!

1. Tropical Climate

The wet season is the warmest time of year in the Daintree and is well known for its hot days, heavy rainfall and humidity. Fortunately, most of the rain falls during the night so you can still get out on a tour and explore during the day. If it does rain during the day, the weather is still warm enough to swim and explore the great outdoors! All of the tours and adventures in the Daintree operate rain or shine, in fact, many of the tours are more fun in the rain! Jungle Surfing in the Daintree is a great way to immerse yourself in the rainforest, ziplining during a tropical downfall allows you to really experience the essence of the rainforest and awakens all of your senses! The rainforest comes alive when it rains, the trees glisten with moisture and the abundant wildlife becomes more active!

2. Creeks and waterfalls are at their best

The Daintree and Cape Tribulation are bursting with life during the wet season and the creeks and waterfalls are gushing. It’s an ideal time to go Jungle Surfing as one of the ziplines runs directly underneath Mason Creek, which is raging at this time of year. There’s no better way to cool off than swimming in one of the many beautiful freshwater swimming holes or waterfalls. Make sure you are Croc-Wise in croc country.

3. Tropical fruit

Cairns, Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation are well known for their fresh, local tropical fruit. During the wet season, you will find there are plenty of fruit to pick from. Whether you like jackfruit, star fruit, mangosteen or bananas, there is something for everyone. You can even do a fruit tasting tour to check out some of the wonderful fruit for yourself.

4. Fewer crowds

The wet season tends to be quieter than the dry season in Far North Queensland. This is great news for anyone visiting at this time of year as there are few crowds to deal with. Another bonus when travelling to the Daintree during the wet season, there is often lower prices available for accommodation and smaller group numbers for tours!

5. Great snorkelling on the reef

At this time of year, the Great Barrier Reef is phenomenal, with perfect water temperatures and visibility up to 50 metres. The warm sea temperatures combined with tons of fish activity makes for some amazing snorkelling conditions! A tour to the Great Barrier Reef during the wet season is something that everyone travelling to Tropical North Queensland should experience.
