Are the kids driving you crazy these school holidays? Do you feel like you have run out of things to do in Cairns? Why not take a step on the wild side and take the family to the Daintree Rainforest these school holidays? You will be amazed to discover how many family friendly holiday adventures are available in the Daintree! And the best part is, the kids are outside, enjoying nature and the great outdoors!
The Daintree and Cape Tribulation are both only a few hours’ drive North of Cairns. In this beautiful part of Far North Queensland, you can experience warm tropical weather, cool freshwater swimming holes, breathtaking views and an abundance of wildlife. The rainforest up here is the oldest in the world, and there are so many adventurous tours that you can experience with the family. Here are some of our favourite adventures in the Daintree:
Your Daintree adventure isn’t complete without a tour of Cooper’s Creek with Cape Tribulation Wilderness Cruises. Catch a glimpse of the elusive saltwater crocodile and explore the untouched scenery. The tour has been running for over 23 years, so they’re bursting with local knowledge. You’ll also get fantastic views of the Coral Sea and of Thornton Peak, which is Queensland’s third highest mountain.
Learn about the incredible history of the Daintree Rainforest and explore the hidden dirt tracks of Cape Tribulation on an exhilarating e-bike tour with Freeride Electric Adventure Tours. Wind your way through the lush, green rainforest, cross freshwater creeks and climb slopes with ease aboard your electric bike. This tour is a great way to experience and explore the beautiful Daintree!
Ocean Safari offers snorkelling tours that begin at Cape Tribulation Beach. The half-day tour takes you on a fast and fun 35-minute boat ride to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef which is just off the Daintree Coast. Snorkel pristine coral and be in with the chance to swim with sea turtles all while exploring the most extensive reef system in the world!!
This has to be one of the best ways to explore the spectacular Cape Tribulation Beach. Cape Trib Horse Rides caters for all riding abilities and offers morning and mid-morning guided beach rides. The horse riding tours are suitable for children aged five yrs and over, but an adult must accompany children under 16yrs.
The Daintree Ice Cream Company is somewhere that you must stop during your visit to the Daintree. The ice cream is made from fresh, tropical fruit grown in their own orchard! A trip to the Daintree isn’t complete without sampling this truly unique home-made tropical fruit ice-cream!
Jungle Surfing in the Daintree would have to be our favourite adventure in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest. Imagine ziplining the world’s oldest rainforest flying from one platform to another high up in the canopy! One of the best things about Jungle Surfing is that it is suitable for the whole family. Kids from the age of 3 can jungle surf, however, any child under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
No prior experience or fitness level is required to Jungle Surf as the guides control your flight. You will also love the Jungle Adventure Night Walks. Meet the Daintree’s fascinating nocturnal locals in the largest, natural open-air exhibit you’ve ever seen. Many rainforest creatures are nocturnal so your knowledgeable guide will keep a look out for snakes, lizards, frogs, spiders, bandicoots, birds, insects and more as you learn about the dark side of the forest. Walks follow natural trails, take around two hours and require moderate fitness. Torches and raincoats are provided and walks depart nightly at 7.30pm.
